"lamp". The novice goes to accept a donation from a village family and, returning, complains to the confessor that in that family they don’t pray at all and remember God only once in the morning and in the evening. The confessor, as a warning, gives him a new obedience: to walk around the village with a lamp in his hands, without spilling a single drop of oil and without extinguishing the fire ... "Shirt". Maria (the same parishioner of the monastery who was waiting for the Savior to visit) has a difficult fate: she lost her husband, her dacha neighbor complains about her all the time, the homeless taken as a help with the housework does not really strive to work, but constantly tries to beg Mary for what some handout. But she does not lose heart - she pays for evil with good, prays and waits for a miracle. And it happens... "Three of you - three of us." The events are given in the perception of a novice who, together with other inhabitants, is present at one of the conversations with the confessor, who is reading to them this parable of Father Paul (Gruzdev). Three old fishermen lived on one island. Once, a well-known and revered archimandrite sailed by on a ship. Hearing that holy miracle workers live on the island, he did not believe it and decided to check everything himself. He was embarrassed that the fishermen did not even know "Our Father" and he began to teach them to pray correctly. However, subsequent events taught the archimandrite himself a lot ... The poet Yu. P. Kuznetsov took this plot as a basis in his last poem "Prayer", written three days before his death. Initially, the Monk Ambrose of Optina (Life, part 2)[3] in a similar story does not feature an archimandrite, but simply travelers. The plot was used by L. N. Tolstoy when writing the story “Three Elders”, in which a bishop arrives on the island to see three hermits. Then, in its modern form, the parable is found in Archimandrite Paul (Gruzdev)[4
