Hideo Saji (Kaoru Kobayashi), who had worked at a police station in the suburbs of Tokyo, retired ten years ago and still lived in the same neighborhood. One day, a detective named Ayumi Kitamine (Machiko Ono) visited Saji to interview him about a murder that had occurred in the neighborhood. The victim was a man Saji had once arrested for stalking a young woman. After serving his sentence, the man had attacked that same woman and injured her. Saji still deeply regretted that incident, wishing he had been more careful. As Kitamine continued her investigation, she came across physical evidence that seemed to implicate Saji, and her suspicions that this seemingly honest man might be the culprit grew stronger. Realizing he is suspected of murder, Saji tries to prove his innocence for the sake of his pride as a former police officer, but at the same time, he begins to wonder if he might actually be the culprit. This is because he suffers from dementia. Saji, who wants to believe in his own innocence, and Kitamine, who is calmly pursuing the case, eventually find themselves stepping into the labyrinth of his mind.
