From Deng Xiaoping's economic opening of China to Margaret Thatcher's liberal market politics, from Ruhollah Khomeini's Islamic revolution to Pope John Paul II's call to Christian resistance against communism in Poland, from the fatal Soviet invasion of Afghanistan to the Second Oil Shock and the nuclear accident at the Three Mile Island power plant, and from the first report about Climate Change to the the first wave of refugees arriving in Europe: the dramatic year 1979 brought pivotal changes all over the world in religion, economics and politics.
