Bedřich Smetana: Libuše
Opis filmu
Opis oryginalny: czeski
We will watch the performance from November 18, 1983, when the historic building of the National Theater was reopened to the Czech public after extensive reconstruction of our first stage. Libuša was first performed at the National Theater in Prague on 11 June 1881. The individual acts are called Libuša's Court, Libuša's Marriage and Libuša's Prophecy. The author of the libretto is Josef Wenzig, who wrote it in German. Ervín Špindler translated it into Czech because Smetana refused to compose to a German text. The subject of its plot was the legend of the princess Libuša, mentioned already in Kosm's Chronicle, but taken mainly from the processing in the Zelenorho Manuscript. The final Libuša's prophecy is the part that Wenzig took on in the most original way. He emphasized the chapters of Czech history that he himself considered the most valuable, including the non-historical and fictional character of Jaroslav of Šternberk, the Moravian defender of the Czech lands, and emphasizing the importance of the Hussites and the Czech king George of Poděbrady.
