The film tells the story of the historic theft of Caravaggio’s masterpiece, Saint Jerome Writing, stolen from the Museum of St. John’s Cathedral in Valletta, Malta, in 1984. The thieves attempted to sell the painting, but were unsuccessful. They eventually turned to the Maltese government for a ransom, threatening to burn the painting if they didn’t receive payment. But their phone calls were traced…
