In the eponymous "black envelope", tasks are given to the hero, the detective Harry Peel, who loses his fortune in the course of the plot. A mysterious criminal, car chases in the wintry Alps with a car and motorcycle and the blowing up of a bridge provide cinematic show values and offer opportunities for breakneck stunts.
