Adolf Hitler, whose dictatorship began in 1933 with a series of book burnings, owned more than 16,000 volumes by the end of his life. Around 1,300 of these are located in the USA today. They show that racist and anti-Semitic thinking was a vital core of Western culture long before the Nazis and still inspires the so-called New Right today.
