The 21st century seems to be one of inexhaustible wealth, but how good are our happiness changes is this new golden century? The Hague, the seat of the Dutch government, has always been a city where wealth and poverty have coexisted. At Fragile Happiness we view our affluent society through the perspective of this philosopher, one ahead of his time. Spinoza's current neighbors each pursue happiness in their own way. We follow Jan, the street sweeper; to Nancy, the dancer; to Peter, the manager; and Arie, the pimp. We will visit an art-loving couple, Don and Mrs. Nystad, we will meet former millionaire Hans and Nur, a refugee from Somalia. Their paths cross again and again in the daily hustle and bustle between the New Church and the statue of Spinoza.
