The young Colette, who is an orphan, has a fortune and only thinks of escaping from the tutelage of a cantankerous aunt. A marriage would serve her. To activate things, she undertakes a novena of prayers in front of the statue of Saint-Expedit. Disappointed in her wishes, she throws the statue out of the window and injures a young man.
