In the prehistoric world of Cro-Magnon, nothing seems to be left to chance. The decorated caves are a succession of painted or engraved panels which participate in a device in which men, women and animals occupy a precise and symbolic place. Made some 30,000 years ago, these frescoes are the first evidence of an art imbued with spirituality and emotion. They also reveal the structured thinking of the Cro-Magnon man. The graphics are so successful that they could be works of professional artists or men linked to a caste and freed from the obligations of hunting.
