The activity takes place in Kurzeme, in the 17th century. The Duke of Kurzeme, the King of Poland and German barons desire power over the Latvian people. In all this power struggle, the biggest victims are the farmers. Jānis and Mārtiņš, pretending to be Polish ambassadors, go to the duke to save Māra.
