October 1937. Asturias falls into the hands of the Francoist army. Surrounded, the republican combatants try to flee by sea. A group of Galician anti-fascist fighters, belonging to the Galicia Battalion and led by the anarchist José Moreno Torres, having failed in their escape attempt, headed for Galicia, losing their trail in the Acevo mountains, on the border between Asturias and Galicia. Neither his relatives nor his companions ever knew what the fate of the group had been. However, and despite the repression that Francoism established for years, in the towns near the Acevo a popular romance began to circulate that gave an account of the last moments of this group of men. Those who witnessed those events as children or received the stories of those who watched them, give an account in "Broken Memories" of the painful fate that Commander Moreno and his companions suffered in the town of El Acevo.
