Paul and Marguerite have loved each other for five years. They live in Montreal. Paul keeps a zoo at night, takes care of his father, a Greek immigrant who lives with them, of the son he had from a first marriage, condemned by illness. He is a man of everyday life, of mastery and repetition. Marguerite does not want to work. It is romantic and advances in the open, day by day.
