It is the largest series of murders in post-war German history: the nurse Niels Högel killed at least 85 people in hospitals in Oldenburg and Delmenhorst. However, investigators assume that there could be many more cases. In 2019, the Oldenburg regional court sentenced Högel to life imprisonment, noting the particular gravity of the guilt.
