Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren), a young socialite, meets criminal defense attorney Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor) in a San Francisco Pet store. Mitch wants to purchase a pair of lovebirds for his sister's eleventh birthday, but the shop has none.
