A journey into the imagination that has been created around one of the most famous cities in the world: Venice. Tassilo, who lives on the canals of Neu Venedig in the south-east of Berlin, was unable to visit the most famous Italian city due to the Cold War. A young Turkish couple who are about to get married and dream of a honeymoon in Venice, finds an imitation in a shopping center in Istanbul. Bärbel and Nikola get busy creating masks and costumes for a Venetian carnival in southern Germany. A shepherd and a butcher consider themselves true Venetians, however theirs is not the lagoon city but a village of the same name in the heart of Transylvania. Escaped from the war in Bosnia, Marica found work on the outskirts of a city, in a container used as a beauty salon called "Venice".
