Karelia extends in its north-south extension from the Arctic Circle to Lake Ladoga and from the Gulf of Finland in the west to the White Sea in the east. The border between Russia and Finland separates Karelia. The largest part, the Republic of Karelia, is in the territory of the Russian Federation.
